holiday happiness

holiday greeting card inspired by my grandma lily’s handmade stockings

Every year my mom tells me, “you need to make some christmas cards!”. And, she was right!! It happens. :) This year I finally created some holiday designs inspired by vintage and scandinavian looks. :)

the story behind the art

My grandma Lily made every one of her grandchildren (and some great-grandchildren) these christmas stockings. She designed each one uniquely by using cookie cutters to trace the shapes on to felt. The N in my sistesr’s name was backward, which made it even more special & one-of-a-kind. Sadly, we lost our stockings in one of our moves as kids.

My sister and myself with grandmas stockings in the background.

This year I replicated the same design from our stockings by looking at these old pictures! It was fun to design and create this image based on my grandma Lily’s design. I felt connected to her, as I noticed the colors that she chose for each shape. Bright pink moon? yes, works great! It is healing to have these stockings back, although in a different form.

Hope you all have happy holidays! Love, Brenda
